Statement
Having recently experienced a deluge of major life transitions, I find myself swimming in the change and holding heavy newness, all the while reflecting back on how I knew myself to be—a reminiscence that is both irresistible and necessary; that this is all bound together is a given, and I am called to break my shells of habit—of escape, avoidance, denial—and instead dive into the fullness of my current experience, breathing through the inherent vulnerability and trusting the process. Moving deep into soul is a challenge that must be embodied.
The work in this show makes use of old, forgotten, and even “unworthy” imagery I’ve created in the past and answers the call for its transformation into new structures and contexts. Charged with my lived experiences of psychic turmoil, self-loathing, melancholy, and nostalgia, the old imagery continues to saturate my bones. By altering and re-contextualizing old work and infusing new imagery, I seek to breathe life into something that existed differently yet remains part of who I am in this moment—highlighting the layers and complexity of a time passed and the inevitability of new growth.
